Never What You See

Never What You See

Twilight comes early in November cold
the migrant geese cry and stake their claim
as I walk in my solitary world
where darkness rules and light is scarce
and loneliness adds beauty to life.

I have been restless for as long as I can remember
but there is change in the air
there is change in the wind
fear stirs the stagnant spirit, propels it forward
and the echo of music strikes a chord deep inside.

Scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue,
            and broken bones eventually heal
we cross the threshold from young to old
masking the hurt, numbing the pain
 but silence is not golden.

So don’t jump to conclusions about the sunset
its stark light refracting beneath cover of clouds
hidden bruises bleeding broken indigo ink
in beautiful streaks of mottled red and purple
and taints the sky with mixed emotions.

The truth is never what you see.

Shades of Cabernet (a pantoum)

Shades of Cabernet

Deep within shades of cabernet
In the outer limits of my soul,
Temptation does a fine ballet,
And I am losing all control.

In the outer limits of my soul,
Logic ends and emotions start.
And I am losing all control
To scarlet desires of the heart.

Logic ends and emotions start
As inhibitions ebb and flow.
To scarlet desires of the heart,
I’m swept away in crimson glow.

As inhibitions ebb and flow,
Thoughts of you fill my mind.
I’m swept away in crimson glow,
Rendering me colorblind.

Thoughts of you fill my mind.
Temptation does a fine ballet,
Rendering me colorblind
Deep within shades of cabernet.

The Heights of Indigo

The Heights of Indigo

I dream of love, the greatest gift
Of emotions that tantalize,
Blending us together in heart,
Infusing us with points of light.

Strolling in fields of honesty,
I dream of love, the greatest gift.
Golden beauty in morning sun,
I am mesmerized by your glow.

When honesty shines down on me
And humankind bestows its fate,
I dream of love, the greatest gift
Dawning bright in December skies.

Night gives in to hush of velvet,
We scale the heights of indigo.
As pure passion binds us as one,
I dream of love, the greatest gift.

Night Hawk

"Coming of Night" by Prozac1 @ Freedigitalphotos.net

Night Hawk

I have been one acquainted with the night…
When shadows masquerade in fantasy.
Like vagabond angels, emotions take flight,
Dancing far outside the realm of reality.

When shadows masquerade in fantasy…
Kindred spirits soar across blue bay.
Dancing far outside the realm of reality,
Feel the morning madness drift away.

Kindred spirits soar across blue bay…
Clouds crash, tumultuous rain spills.
Feel the morning madness drift away,
Falling silent, deep into the forest hills.

Clouds crash, tumultuous rain spills…
As hawk keeps watch high in hickory tree.
Falling silent, deep into the forest hills,
Breathe in the essence of true serenity.

As hawk keeps watch high in hickory tree…
Dusk whispers, leaves tumble to and fro.
Breathe in the essence of true serenity,
Savoring stars that bedeck a field of indigo.

Dusk whispers, leaves tumble to and fro…
Like vagabond angels, emotions take flight.
Savoring stars that bedeck a field of indigo,
I have been one acquainted with the night.
