Masks and Lies

Masks and Lies

Blaze the spark of early fires
Velvet whispers, deep desires
Muted rapture in the dying light
You are shadows, I am the night.

Don’t listen to the weathermen
They talk about the rain again
Tap your homicidal feelings
Paint the sky upon the ceiling.

But you fall to dust and crumble
In walls of words that tumble
Knowing the liar has no truth to give
And he has to have a lie to live.

No matter where the river flows,
I must follow where my mind goes
Masked by clouds, just out of sight
You are shadows, I am the night.

Stars In The Southern Sky (A Quatern)

Stars In The Southern Sky ~ A Quatern

There are stars in the southern sky
Smiling as the full moon floats by.
Hear my voice on the summer breeze,
Sweet songs drifting across the seas.

The world keeps spinning, do or die.
There are stars in the southern sky.
The candle flickers, growing old.
Starkness of winter blowing cold.

My days get shorter, wracked with pain
In this deluge of freezing rain.
There are stars in the southern sky,
Hidden by clouds as angels cry.

Watch as I defy gravity,
Set free from this purgatory.
And when I twinkle, you’ll know why
There are stars in the southern sky.

Sing To Me of Heroes

Sing To Me of Heroes

The sun shines brightly through the blinds,
and there isn’t a cloud in the sky.
Cold news splashed in black and white
and all I can do is cry.

The crescent moon is dim tonight
and the stars look different today.
The world is spinning far too fast,
and I cannot find my way.

So sing to me of heroes,
diamond dogs and unseen scars…
Watch me as I close my eyes
and float amongst the stars…

We’re all living on borrowed time
and we’re clinging to our youth
while the end is drawing closer…
No whitewashing the truth.

They’re all waiting there with open arms,
Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Freddie Mercury takes your hand and says
it’s time for you to sing…

So sing to me of heroes,
diamond dogs and unseen scars…
Watch me as I close my eyes
and float amongst the stars…

After having no words all day long, these words came to me tonight…straight from my heart.   Most of you who know me well know that David Bowie was one of my favorite artists of all time.  His work will live on in our hearts forever. RIP Ziggy Stardust…

Waiting For Spring (A Villanelle)

Waiting For Spring (A Villanelle)

Sweet sentient beings of the sky
Rustling about in the hedgerow,
Waiting for spring… to dream, to fly.

A cool wind whispers as clouds roll by,
Telling tales they already know,
Sweet sentient beings of the sky.

Heed the call of the lonely magpie
Through the valley, soft voices echo,
Waiting for spring… to dream, to fly.

Cardinals flock and chickadees cry,
Seeking comfort in haven of snow,
Sweet sentient beings of the sky.

Dancers in the wings, crows go awry,
Stirring up horses in a meadow
Waiting for spring… to dream, to fly.

Rest little ones, morning is nigh.
The stars will guide you as you go.
Sweet sentient beings of the sky,
Waiting for spring… to dream, to fly.

The Raisonneur

Ah, distinctly I remember
It was in the bleak December.
The cold north winds would not abate,
The raisonneur of my life’s fate.

Dark night gave way to morning light,
A winter wonderland of white
Perched lightly on my iron gate,
The raisonneur of my life’s fate.

She turned to me, spoke in hushed tones
Said I must kneel and weep alone.
A thousand years I lie in wait,
The raisonneur of my life’s fate.

Ah distinctly I remember
The raisonneur of my life’s fate.

The Road to Resolution (A Kyrielle Sonnet)

The Road to Resolution (A Kyrielle Sonnet)

Roads stretch far as the eye can see,
Speeding white lines hypnotize me.
Drive nonstop until morning light...
I’m going the distance tonight.

All bets off in the quest for fire,
The quiet search for heart’s desire.
Eight hundred miles to set things right...
I’m going the distance tonight.

Emerald streaks paint the night sky
Like a home dye job gone awry.
Your green eyes meet mine, sparkling bright...
I’m going the distance tonight.

Roads stretch far as the eye can see
I’m going the distance tonight.

Where Broken Dreams Go

Where Broken Dreams Go

When November rains, midnight is calling.
Ravaged by wind, bare maples still standing.
December descends with soft snow falling
The migrant geese come in for a landing.

Hard winter looms with an indignant stare,
Dark clouds taunt as the anger releases.
Cruel lies thrash my skin, pierce the bitter air.
Soul shatters into a thousand pieces.

When twilight beckons with pink shades seeping,
My frantic pulse ebbs with the fading light.
Cold and tired, I have no trouble sleeping.
Time passes unhindered in dead of night.

Bruised hearts heal beneath January snow…
Still I wonder, where do broken dreams go?
